The Standing Committee of the Diocese of Rhode Island Summary of Meeting of May 10, 2011

The Hon. Scott Avedisian, President, called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm.. Other members in attendance were Ms. Caryl Frink, Ms. Frances Gammell-Roach, the Rev. Pamela Mott, the Rev. Jennifer Pedrick,, Mr. WIlliam Plumb, the Rev. Anita Schell-Lambert and the Rev. Stephanie Shoemaker. The Rt. Rev. Geralyn Wolf was present for part of the meeting. Mr. Patrick Campbell was present for an interview.

1. The meeting was opened with prayer by Bp. Wolf.

2.. Bishop Wolf continued the conversation that has begun about the state of the congregations in RI with an analysis that added her experience with congregations to the statistics that were recently shared with clergy and parish leaders.

3. Official Status Change The Standing Committee voted to change the status of St. Mary’s Church, East Providence from

parish to a mission of the Diocese of Rhode Island and the status of St. James Church, North Providence to a mission of the Diocese of Rhode Island.

4.. The minutes of the April 12, 2011 meeting were approved.

5. As required by the Canons, Mr. Patrick Campbell came to the Standing Committee for the required interview for Candidacy. It was voted to recommend Mr. Campbell to the Bishop as a Candidate for Ordination.

6. Consent was given to the Diocese of Haiti for the election of a Suffragan Bishop.

7. The Standing Committee gave consent to the “Election Budget for the XIII Bishop of Rhode Island” approved by the Diocesan Council. A general discussion followed on where we are with the process of preparing for the selection and transition to the next Bishop of Rhode Island.

8. The Rev, Stephanie Shoemaker closed the meeting with prayer There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 6:30 pm.
