Summary of Meeting of August 9, 2011


The Hon. Scott Avedisian, President, called the meeting to order at 4:25 pm at St. Mary’s Church, Portsmouth. Other members in attendance were Ms. Caryl Frink, Ms. Frances Gammell-Roach, the Rev. Pamela Mott, the Rev. Jennifer Pedrick,, Mr. WIlliam Plumb, the Rev. Anita Schell-Lambert and the Rev. Stephanie Shoemaker.


1. The meeting was opened with prayer by the Rev. Jennifer Pedrick.


2. The minutes of the July 10, 2011 meeting were approved as amended. This prompted a continuing discussion about parish mergers and our need to preserve what we have learned for reference for future members of the Standing Committee


3. Consents:

a. It was voted to consent to consent to the election of a Bishop Coadjutor for the Diocese of New Hampshire.

b. It was voted to consent to the Ordination of Joseph Scott Barker as Bishop Diocesan of the Diocese of Nebraska.

c. It was voted to consent to to the Ordination of Mariann Edgar Budde as Bishop Diocesan of the Diocese of Washington.


4. The testimonial for the Ordination to the Diaconate of Patrick Campbell was signed by all members.


5. The general discussion about parish mergers was reopened with the request by 2 parishes for permission to engage in merger conversations. The Standing Committee

a. would like to review the Merger Process and Policy of the Diocese of RI with Canon Betsy Fornal and also review the 2010 canonical changes involving mergers.

b. requests that the clergy and wardens of the four Episcopal parishes in Cranston meet with the Standing Committee in September to discuss the future of the Episcopal Church in that city.


6. There was a continuing discussion and update on the work of the Search and Transition Committees.


There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 6:55 pm. for a cookout.


NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, September 13, 2011, 4:00 pm in the Higgins Room of Diocesan House.
